In October 2004, Luca Gargano, owner of Velier in Italy, was visiting Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago to prepare a photo shoot by photographer Marcarini on the theme of rum and the Caribbean. During this trip he discovered the Caroni distillery, which had been closed a year earlier on the direction of the government. When he arrived on site, he saw a big warehouse containing hundreds of barrels of rum for sale, the oldest of which dated back to 1974. A little later that year, he decided to buy back these casks and bottle them high proof in order to preserve all their aromas. This is how the story with Caroni began.
