Tribute to Rita and Masataka Taketsuru for the 100th birthday of their wedding

After studying organic chemistry at Glasgow University and working at the Longmor, Bo’ness (closed in 1925) and Hazelburn distilleries, Masataka Taketsuru married Jessie Roberta (Rita) Cowan in 1920. This limited edition of 100 gift sets is a nod to the 100th anniversary of the marriage of this legendary couple in Japan. From 1923 to 1934, Masataka Taketsuru directed the Yamazaki distillery, and in the same year founded his first distillery, Yoichi, on the island of Hokkaido. In 1939/1940, the first whisky he bottled was named Nikka Whisky. It would not be until 1969 that a second distillery would be opened, in Sendai, in the north-east of Japan, Miyagikyo. A blend of these two single malts, the Nikka Taketsurus pay tribute to the spiritual father of Japanese whisky. A true introductory course, this prestigious box set also showcases the expertise of Tadashi Sakuma, Nikka’s master blender.
